Learning Objectives: • Recognize obesity as a major disease with its implications on health and the stress to the healthcare system • Describe the different approaches to evaluating patients affected by overweight and obesity • Review and discuss pertinent obesity guidelines • Translate the recommendations for different treatment approaches into actionable steps for multiple disciplines • Discuss other considerations as well as unmet needs and future directions in obesity medicine • Discuss determining and implementing customized treatment Scott Kahan, MD, MPH, FTOS. Dr. Scott Kahan is the Medical Director of Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance and Director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness in Washington, DC. He serves on Faculty of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the George Washington University Schools of Medicine and Public Health. He also serves on Board of Directors of American Board of Obesity Medicine and the Obesity Treatment Foundation. Deborah Bade Horn, DO, MFOMA. Dr. Horn is the medical director of the Center for Obesity Medicine and Metabolic Performance and is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas Medical School. She is board certiFed in family and general preventive medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. In 2011, Dr. Horn earned the Obesity Medicine Association's (OMA) Bariatrician of the Year award. She currently serves as the OMA president. She regularly presents in a variety of educational formats and venues about physical activity, obesity, and weight-related comorbidities. Dr. Horn received her medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. She also holds two master's degrees, one in exercise physiology and another in public health and physical activity. Christopher D. Still, DO, FACN, FACP. Dr. Still received Masters of Science degree from Columbia University Institute of Human Nutrition and his osteopathic medical degree from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at the University of Buffalo at Sisters of Charity Hospital, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a subsequent fellowship in clinical nutrition and obesity treatment at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.
