PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The purpose of this study is to present the experiences of bariatric surgeons around the world who have performed sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) procedures. METHODS This meeting included 375 participants, of which 303 were bariatric surgeons, from 31 countries. The first day consisted of live surgery via the internet, the second day featured presentations and a questionnaire, and the third day consisted of the consensus summit in which attendees voted on questions pertaining to bariatric surgery. The questionnaire was completed by surgeons who had performed the LSG for a minimum of 6 months and on at least 10 patients. RESULTS Findings based on 106 questionnaires (14,776 LSG procedures) were as follows: • The mean number of LSG patients per surgeon was 139.4±214.7. • 86.3% of LSG procedures were intended to be the sole procedure; 5.2% of these procedures required a second-stage procedure. • 81.9% of surgeons reported no conversions from laparoscopic to open LSG. • The size of bougie used was 8S Bariatric Times • June 2012 • Supplement TABLE 2 reproduced with permission.
